The Nurse selected for this position will work in the Office of Occupational Medicine and Nursing (OOMN) and support occupational health activities across OSHA’s National Office and field offices.
Nurse Job Responsibilities
The selected candidate will perform professional nursing and occupational health duties, including:
- Supporting OSHA National Office and field offices with occupational health initiatives and health-awareness requirements.
- Reviewing and answering questions concerning OSHA standards, healthcare concerns and nursing matters.
- Training OSHA employees, occupational medicine and nursing students, and National Office staff.
- Reviewing clinical charts and records and providing laboratory reports and other information as directed by OOMN physicians.
- Supporting the development of new occupational health standards and policies.
- Working with standards and compliance groups on occupational health matters.
- Providing technical assistance and guidance to OSHA offices, individuals, federal and state agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Working with educational institutions, unions and professional organizations on occupational health issues.
Education Requirements for Nurse Jobs
Applicants must have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
The nursing program must have been accredited by an appropriate recognized accrediting organization at the time the degree was obtained.
Foreign Nursing Degree Requirements
Applicants who graduated from a foreign nursing school must provide official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).
Foreign education must also be demonstrated to be comparable to education received from accredited educational institutions in the United States.
Nursing License Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have passed the National Council license Examination (NCLEX).
- Hold a current, active, full and unrestricted professional nursing license.
- The license must be issued by a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or a U.S. territory.
GS-13 Specialized Nursing Experience
For the GS-13 Nurse position, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service.
Qualifying specialized experience includes experience in:
- Evaluating occupational health issues involving the effects of harmful agents on workers.
- Applying occupational health nursing concepts, principles and practices.
- Providing expert technical assistance and guidance regarding occupational health.
- Using information technology systems, including electronic infrastructure databases or electronic health systems.
